A class summon is an ability on a profession path, while a wolf or hatchling is controlled through an item. The C1 skill catalogue includes Warlock, Elemental Summoner and Phantom Summoner paths as well as knight and Dwarf companions. Check the class's actual learn levels, required items and skill cost before choosing a character for one attractive creature. Early and later profession stages need not give the same access.
The linked native records show examples at their recorded levels. Kat the Cat, Unicorn Boxer and Shadow connect to summoner paths; Dark Panther appears in the Dark Avenger path; Mechanic Golem belongs to the Artisan and Warsmith line; Life Cubic belongs to Temple Knight. A monster-style record for a servitor is a data reference, not a suggestion to farm it as an ordinary wild enemy.

A servitor is a companion you direct as part of your combat plan. Cubics instead add an effect through a knight's summoning skills and do not play like a second character that you can position and equip. Temple Knight has
Summon Life Cubic and
Summon Storm Cubic in the native C1 list; Shillien Knight has
Summon Poltergeist Cubic,
Summon Vampiric Cube and
Summon Viper Cubic. Check the skill entry for the level and resource requirements of the exact cubic you intend to use.
Summoning can consume crystals or other resources and may be constrained by skill timing. A high-value summon is only worthwhile if you can maintain the rest of the session: shots, healing, MP and travel still matter. Test a route with the companion active and compare it with a short session without it. If replacing the servitor is expensive or unavailable at that moment, leave a safer margin in each pull.
The character still needs usable attacks and defensive choices when a servitor expires, is lost or cannot be summoned. A Wizard approaching a summoner transfer should check both the future summon list and the combat skills available along the way. For a knight or Artisan, the companion supports a wider class kit rather than replacing it. That makes class progression more reliable than planning around one companion alone.
A party might value an extra attacker, a resource-supporting servitor or a cubic effect differently. Compare the group's real shortage before picking a class or a summon. The companion records and class skill pages give names and levels; your party's sustain and positioning determine usefulness. For a persistent animal that needs feeding and equipment, follow the separate wolf and hatchling guide instead.
