Compare Wasteland surface monsters from levels 19 to 28, add a relevant C1 quest, and keep the Ant Nest as a separate step.
The Wasteland is more than a passage to the Ant Nest. Its C1 records include a run of surface monsters around levels 19 to 28 before the ant encounters rise into the 30s. That lets a character test an outdoor camp without committing to a confined nest. Start by choosing an enemy close to your current capabilities, then watch for neighbours before deciding whether to stay in the same patch.
Arachnid Tracker begins this sample at level 19; later records include
Ol Mahum Deserter,
Monster Eye Watcher and two basilisks. They are useful checkpoints across the area, not a claim that one path crosses them in that order. Check each linked mob record for its actual traits and possible drops. A safer target with room to retreat can outperform a higher-level one if the latter repeatedly forces recovery.
| C1 encounter | Level | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Arachnid Tracker | 19 | First surface benchmark |
| Ol Mahum Deserter | 23 | Test a different enemy group |
| Monster Eye Watcher | 25 | Check the middle range |
| Lesser Basilisk | 27 | Reassess survivability |
| Basilisk | 28 | Upper surface comparison |
The C1 quest Sense for Business opens at level 21 and sends players to collect Wasteland ingredients. Check its named targets and hand-in requirements before travelling. A repeatable objective can improve a surface hunt, but it should support a route you can clear safely. If the quest asks for an enemy beyond your current comfort, keep the quest and return after a skill or equipment upgrade.
| Quest record | Entry level | Planning question |
|---|---|---|
| Sense for Business | 21 | Do its targets match your camp? |
Ant Larva and later ant records appear in the broader Wasteland data, but the underground Nest has a different pull pattern and a steeper level climb. Do not infer that success against a surface
basilisk prepares you for a room of ants. Check the Nest's own monster list, available party support and escape path before crossing that boundary. One outdoor session can be worthwhile without entering the dungeon at all.
The space between targets matters in an outdoor zone. Count the time spent moving, the shots or MP used per kill and the cost of returning to town. A camp that looks attractive on a drop list can lose value if the next spawn is far away or the route becomes crowded. Preserve an escape option and compare actual results across several fights before investing more in the location.
When surface enemies become easy, test the next C1 record or a different location near your level. If the quest is complete and the best camp is too crowded, changing grounds may be faster than waiting. Keep a short note of the monster, level and resource cost that worked, and use it as the baseline for your next Wasteland or Ant Nest visit.
