Scout the C1 monsters around Hardin's Academy, compare an entry pull with stronger targets, and connect the route to higher-level quests.
Hardin's Academy is part of the C1 Giran-region additions. The native location record includes ordinary monsters from level 36 through 40, making it a place to test how your class handles the late thirties. Start with a short scouting circuit, observe nearby groups and the return route, then decide whether the area's experience justifies its travel and supply cost.
Guardian Basilisk and
Road Scavenger appear at the lower end of the local range, followed by
Fettered Soul,
Windsus and
Grandis. Those numbers are a useful first filter, not a promise of identical danger: compare each target's attack pattern, how often you must recover and whether you can pull one at a time. The linked mob pages show the C1 records and possible drops.
| C1 monster | Level | First scouting question |
|---|---|---|
| Guardian Basilisk | 36 | Can you clear it without long recovery? |
| Road Scavenger | 37 | Is the route open enough to isolate one? |
| Fettered Soul | 38 | Can your group sustain repeated fights? |
| Windsus | 39 | Does the XP offset higher supply use? |
| Grandis | 40 | Is your party ready for the stronger end? |
Fight a few suitable enemies, record XP, SP, shots, healing and downtime, then compare with your previous hunting ground. If a higher-level monster gives more XP per kill but leaves the healer without MP, it may be a weaker route for the group. A controlled ten-minute sample is more useful than staying merely because the zone is labeled for your level.
Guardian Basilisk and
Windsus appear among the targets used by Song of the Hunter, but that quest begins at level 45. A character farming the Academy in the late thirties should not assume the union job is already active. Later, revisit this area only when the assigned objective and monster level still make sense. The quest record supplies exact step and item requirements.
The Academy's familiar entrance can make the whole area look simple. Mark where the party can regroup, leave room for a support character and avoid pulling through other monsters. If your first safe target is taking too much time, move back down the local ladder. The goal is steady progress, not proving that every mob listed near the Academy can be killed in one outing.
Once
Grandis and other level 40 targets become comfortable, compare Forest of Mirrors, Sea of Spores or a level 40 group route. Open the next area's monster list before paying to travel; its lowest entry level may hide a much harder far end. Your class transfer, shot grade and party composition can matter more than a one-level difference between the locations.
